Project complexities, simplified by Alpha:
- Delivering construction within a 6-week shutdown window, requiring precise planning, coordination and execution to ensure all works were completed within the limited programme without impacting operations.
- Working in close proximity (approx. 5m) to the Derby–Crewe railway line, requiring liaison with Network Rail, controlled lifting operations and strict compliance with rail safety requirements.
- Coordinating with multiple M&E and process contractors, ensuring seamless integration of structural and process elements within a constrained timeframe.
Scope of Works:
- Construction of a 36m high steel frame extension, delivering a substantial vertical structure to support industrial process requirements.
- Integration of the new structure into the existing concrete framed building, ensuring structural continuity and alignment with existing infrastructure.
- Application of shop-applied intumescent coating, providing compliant fire protection to the structural steelwork.
- Installation of composite in-situ concrete floors, creating durable working platforms suitable for industrial operations.
- Installation of access platforms and walkways, enabling safe access for operation and maintenance of plant.
- Coordination with mechanical, electrical and process installations, ensuring alignment between civil works and specialist systems.
