Project complexities, simplified by Alpha:
- Significant site level raising, requiring engineered fill and specialist Rolling Dynamic Compaction (RDC) techniques to achieve the required ground bearing capacity for high-voltage infrastructure. This ensured the long-term stability of transformer and switchgear foundations, reducing settlement risk and protecting asset performance.
- Integration of civil, structural and M&E elements, ensuring seamless coordination between substation foundations, control building construction and electrical installation works. Careful sequencing and interface management were essential to prevent clashes, rework and programme disruption.
- Delivery of critical grid infrastructure, where ground performance and construction accuracy were fundamental to long-term operational reliability. Build precision directly influenced the safety, durability and resilience of the 132kV connection.
Scope of Works:
- Bulk earthworks and engineered fill, raising site levels to enable construction of HV substation foundations. This created a stable, compliant platform capable of supporting heavy electrical equipment.
- Application of specialist Rolling Dynamic Compaction (RDC) techniques, improving ground bearing capacity to meet structural and equipment load requirements. RDC enhanced ground performance efficiently, avoiding more invasive and costly foundation solutions.
- Construction of reinforced concrete foundations, cable troughs and ducting, supporting high-voltage transformers and associated infrastructure. These elements formed the structural and service backbone of the substation.
- Construction of a new brick-and-tile Control Building, including full M&E design and installation, internal finishes and drainage systems (cess tank and soakaway), providing a secure, fully serviced operational hub for switchgear control and monitoring.
- Installation of electrified palisade fencing and concrete fence beams, delivering compliant perimeter security for critical energy infrastructure.
- External infrastructure works, including drainage, tarmac access roads and site finishes, ensuring safe access, effective water management and long-term site durability.
