- Delivering works within an ecologically sensitive environment, including areas supporting protected species such as water voles. Construction activities were carefully sequenced in close liaison with approved ecologists to comply with licence conditions and seasonal movement restrictions, ensuring zero impact on protected habitats.
- Adapting designs to suit variable and unforeseen ground conditions, working collaboratively with the client and design team to modify foundation and construction solutions to maintain buildability and programme certainty.
- Incorporating additional electrical protection measures during construction, including the application of secondary insulation systems to reinforced concrete elements, introduced to mitigate the risk of electrical interference and enhance long-term operational performance.
Scope of Works
- Formation of a new substation extension platform, including bulk earthworks, repurposing of arable land, engineered fill and an integrated attenuation system, creating a stable, flood-resilient base for new electrical infrastructure.
- Construction of new internal and external access routes, providing safe construction access and reliable long-term operational and maintenance access.
- Reinforced concrete foundations for new and existing substation equipment, designed to support high-voltage assets and long-term operational loads.
- Installation of underground ducting, precast concrete cable troughs and earthing systems, integrated with the live substation to ensure safe, compliant routing of new electrical services.
- Drainage and surface water management works, including ditch reprofiling, piped drainage and manholes, to protect assets and maintain site resilience in adverse weather.
- Completion of external finishes, including substation gravel and tarmac surfacing, to deliver a safe, durable and fully operational compound.
