Currently Available Roles:
- All site based positions require applicants to lodge away during the week.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred, but not compulsory.
- Please note that we do not have a licence for sponsored work visas.
- Experience working in the high voltage energy sector or in
- National Grid environments is an advantage but not essential.

Meet Some of the People Who Have Shaped Their Careers at Alpha
Ashley Carlin
Current Role: Site Manager
Joined Alpha: 1990
Ashley is one of our longest-serving team members, having been a cornerstone of Alpha Construction Ltd for 35 years. Originally trained as an apprentice builder, Ashley joined us in 1990 and has progressed from General Foreman to his current role as Site Manager.
Specialised in high-voltage infrastructure and National Grid projects, Ashley’s day-to-day involves managing complex substation works, developing Safe Systems of Work (RAMS), and acting as a direct liaison for our clients. For over a decade, he also served as Alpha’s Health and Safety representative, ensuring that his deep industry knowledge is always underpinned by the highest safety standards. Ashley’s three-decade journey proves that at Alpha, we don’t just offer jobs; we offer a professional home for life.
Ben Brooks MEng CEng MICE
Current Role: Contracts Manager (MEng CEng MICE)
Joined Alpha: 2005 (Graduate Site Engineer)
Ben’s journey is a testament to what is possible here. Joining us fresh from Nottingham Trent University with a Master’s in Civil Engineering, Ben started on the front line as a Site Engineer.
His career at Alpha has been defined by steady, supported advancement:
- 2005: Joined as Graduate Site Engineer.
- 2010: Promoted to Site Manager & achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE.
- 2015 – Present: Contracts Manager, overseeing multi-sector infrastructure projects.
Today, Ben manages complex schemes across the renewables, electricity, and food production sectors.
Christina Elston
Current Role: Finance & HR Coordinator
Joined Alpha: 2009
Christina joined our head office team in 2009, bringing a background in Business Management and a particular passion for the accounting side of operations. Over the last 16 years, she has become an essential pillar of our head office, managing everything from purchase ledgers and expenses to the weekly payroll - her favourite part of the role.
As Alpha has grown, so has Christina’s remit. She now leads our internal HR processes, managing the onboarding of new starters and ensuring all compliance and right-to-work documentation is seamless. Her journey reflects the culture at Alpha, with team members encouraged to expand their skills into new departments whilst maintaining their core expertise.
Nick Emery
Current Role: Resource Manager
Joined Alpha: 2025
Heading up recruitment is our Resource Manager, Nick Emery. While Nick has worked with the business for over 15 years, he officially joined our internal team in 2025 to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity across our site teams and head office. With a background in specialist recruitment and a focus on transparency, Nick is the person you’ll speak to directly when you apply. He is here to ensure that every new recruit doesn’t just have the right technical skills, but the right mindset to thrive in our professional, disciplined site environments.
