The role is site based and will involve lodging away from home during the week (lodging allowance paid) previous experience of Transmission and Distribution, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Anaerobic Digestion Plants and Renewable Energy would be an advantage but not essential.

Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for all aspects of production on site. Ensuring that the contract is carried out in accordance with the company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Policies and Procedures. To deliver the project within the tendered cost and programme duration. You will report to the Contracts Manager and your immediate subordinates will be the General Foreman and Supervisor Site Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety, Sustainability & Quality

  • Implement company H&S and Environmental policies, maintaining the Construction Phase Plan on-site.
  • Produce, review, and update risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and work permits.
  • Ensure all Quality documentation and Integrated Management System (IMS) forms are completed and signed
  • off for the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) and H&S file

2. Operational Planning & Production

  • Partner with the Contracts Manager post-handover to determine optimal construction sequences and methods.
  • Accurately set out the site and coordinate labour, plant, sub-contractors, and materials.
  • Collaborate with the Site Engineer to proactively raise Requests for Information (RFIs) and Technical Queries (TQs) regarding drawing or specification anomalies.
  • Maintain a rolling 3-week look-ahead programme and document as-built progress.

3. Commercial & Financial Control

  • Forecast site resource requirements (labour, plant, materials) to track against tender allowances.
  • Assist the Quantity Surveying department with accurate valuations and prompt invoice query resolution.
  • Maintain meticulous contemporary records, ensuring all variations, changes, and dayworks are formally documented in writing.

4. Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage, motivate, and discipline the site workforce, ensuring all operatives are fully competent for their tasks.
  • Manage sub-contractor performance, monitoring their quality, progress, and safety compliance.
  • Supervise effective plant utilisation and ensure materials are handled efficiently to minimise waste.

5. Stakeholder & Public Relations

  • Act as the primary on-site representative for Alpha Construction Ltd.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, statutory undertakers, and the general public.
  • Keep the Contracts Manager and Quantity Surveyor informed of any significant site developments affecting project progress.

6. Limits of Authority

  • Capital expenditure requires prior approval.
  • Recruitment of site labour requires prior authorisation from the Contracts Manager.
  • Material and subcontractor ordering must go through established procurement routes.
