Services Provided: Civil Engineering & Building Services
Scope: The complete construction of a completely new high voltage substation on a brown-field site including:
Extensive groundworks including dealing with severely contaminated land (Asbestos & Chromate)
Northern Power Grid Control Building (foundations, block/brick walls, composite roof with PCC planks, internal finishes)
EDF Control Building (Foundations, steel frame, composite cladded walls and roof, internal blockwork, internal finishes including kitchen area)
Equipment foundations, ducting and earthing for the high voltage transformer and equipment
Installation of an oil containment drainage system including a separator and penstock chambers. Surface water drainage system including pumping station and connection into mains sewer
Perimeter electrified palisade fencing
Piled retaining wall to existing ditch
External lighting scheme
Site finishes including paths, tarmac roads and chippings
Other Aspects: Works had to be compliant with three different specifications (NPG, EDF and
National Grid)
