Partnering with Burton Albion Community Trust

We are incredibly proud to officially unveil a newly refurbished classroom designed specifically for secondary school students facing challenges in mainstream education, delivered in partnership with the Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT).

The project has transformed a vital teaching space used by BACT’s Secondary Alternative Education programme, resulting in a durable, welcoming, and dedicated learning environment for local students aged 11 to 16 years old.

For this refurbishment our goal was to build a space that not only looked good but was also built to last. We wanted to create an environment where students feel engaged and inspired to learn.

Katie Johnson, Head of Community at Burton Albion Community Trust, shared what this means for the programme:

“At Burton Albion Community Trust, we are committed to providing inclusive, supportive environments where every young person has the opportunity to succeed. This partnership with Alpha Construction Ltd has enabled us to create a high-quality learning space that not only enhances the experience for our students but also empowers them to take pride in their surroundings. The hands-on involvement of the young people throughout the project has been incredibly valuable and we are very grateful for their support.”

Built With the Students, Not Just For Them

One of the most rewarding aspects of this collaboration was involving the students themselves. We didn’t just want to hand over a finished room , we wanted the students to feel a true sense of ownership over it.

Working side-by-side with the Alpha team, the students rolled up their sleeves and got involved in the real-world project process. They helped us:

  • Measure up the physical space
  • Select the colour schemes, furnishings and artwork
  • Navigate real-world project considerations like budgeting and decision-making

This hands-on approach gave the students a practical introduction to the construction and project management world. More importantly, it helped them develop vital communication skills, build self-confidence, and take pride in their surroundings.

To celebrate the completion of the project, we recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony. We were delighted to be joined by Burton Albion Football Club First Team Player, Sulyman Krubally, alongside representatives from BACT and our own Alpha team.

Reflecting on the project, our Managing Director, Tony Bamford, said:

“We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality work and solving problems before they arise. Being part of a project that directly benefits young people in our community has been incredibly rewarding. We wanted to create a space that is safe, reliable, and built to support learning for years to come.”
