Project complexities, simplified by Alpha:
- Delivering works within a fully operational substation, requiring careful sequencing to maintain uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure.
- Maintaining perimeter security at all times, including phased works to ensure the site remained secure throughout construction.
- Integrating new flood defence and drainage systems with existing infrastructure, ensuring reliable long-term performance.
- Upgrading drainage and pumping systems within a live environment, requiring controlled delivery to avoid disruption to operational assets.
Scope of Works:
- Phased removal of the existing security fence, ensuring continuous site protection throughout the works.
- Construction of almost 1 kilometre of fibre-reinforced concrete flood wall, providing perimeter protection to the existing 400kV and 132kV substations.
- Installation of high-security electrified weldmesh fencing, integrated with the flood defence system.
- Installation of 1 No. vehicle flood gate and 1 No. pedestrian flood gate, maintaining controlled access and egress.
- Upgrade of internal substation drainage systems, including installation of 10 No. groundwater pumping stations to manage flood conditions.
- Installation of flood-proof doors to critical control buildings, protecting essential infrastructure.
- Rerouting of access roads and upgrading of site lighting, ensuring safe and continuous operation of the site.
